Citi to Pay $25.9M For Discriminating Against Armenian-American Credit Card Applicants

Citigroup will pay $25.9 million in fines and redress to consumers after illegally discriminating against credit card applicants that the bank identified as Armenian American, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

“Citi stereotyped Armenians as prone to crime and fraud,” CFPB Director Rohit Chopra said. “In reality, Citi illegally fabricated documents to cover up its discrimination.”
