“According to initial information gathered, two men were fishing on Lake Manon and suddenly one of them, aged 61, disappeared into the waters of the lake,” said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Sgt. Hélène St-Pierre.

The man was located and “brought back to the banks of the lake before being taken to hospital, where unfortunately his death was declared,” she said.

The man’s identity was not immediately revealed and the SQ has opened an investigation, but St-Pierre said that criminal activity is not suspected and that it is believed the man’s death was a drowning.

He was not wearing a lifejacket, she said.
