Streaming sticks are a cheap and easy way to add some smarts to basically anything that has an HDMI port. They can go as low as $20, or as high as $50 or more, depending on how many features you want and the output resolution. But you can go even cheaper if you look for deals, especially if they’re deals for some of the most non-conventional options. Walmart’s Onn sticks are a good alternative, and the most recent launch in the lineup brings a full Android TV interface to your TV starting at $15.
Walmart has quietly released a new streaming stick for its Onn sub-brand. The streaming stick itself is not really all that outstanding. It supports Full HD resolution so you can play all your shows and movies in high quality, and it supports Google TV, Google’s current smart TV ecosystem. This last part is important because even though Google TV technically started replacing Android TV in 2020, three years ago, some streaming sticks and devices, especially those on the cheaper side, are still being sold (and even coming out) with the older Android TV interface. With this, you’ll have the latest TV software that Google offers, though it’s not clear how what the update situation moving forward will be.
Other features include a micro-USB port, stereo sound maintain, and 1.5GB of RAM. It looks similar to the HD version of the Chromecast with Google TV (CCwGTV), with the difference that this is a streaming stick rather than a dongle with a built-in cable. The best part about this, however, is the price. It costs just $14.88, which is about $5 or $6 less than the CCwGTV HD. That’s not a huge savings, but it can make for either a cheap addition to supercharge your PC or a cheap gift for a friend or a family member. It can also be a good price if you’re trying to stick to a really low budget, or if you don’t need that many features.
The streaming stick can now be bought on Walmart. It’s listed as a Cyber Monday deal, but there’s no “discounted” price.
