The revival we’ve been waiting for.
The demise of the NUC series, formerly made by Intel, was a painful one, but it made a triumphant comeback just days later after ASUS struck a partnership with Intel to keep making the discontinued range of computers. The agreement would see ASUS continue to make existing designs and release new models. If you’ve been wondering how the new ASUS-made NUCs would luck, you’re in luck today, as ASUS decided to take advantage of CES 2024 to introduce the newest NUCs to release during 2024.
ASUS has announced a total of three new NUC computers that you’ll soon be able to check out, following the company’s takeover of the NUC business from Intel last year. These include the ASUS NUC 14 Pro and the ASUS NUC 14 Pro+, as well as a brand-new entry, the ASUS ROG NUC. Starting with the two first ones, the NUC 14 Pro and Pro+ come with Intel’s newest Core Ultra processors—the Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 in the case of the Pro, and the ultra-powerful Core Ultra 9 in the case of the Pro+. As a reminder, these chips come with a bunch of improvements, such as three core clusters (including “low-power” efficiency cores) and an integrated NPU for offline AI processing tasks. Like you would expect from a NUC made by Intel, these are very basic units that are decently powerful but are otherwise low-profile.
Want something a bit more eye-catching? The ASUS ROG NUC might be the option for you. It belongs to ASUS’ ROG range of gaming computers, so it’s as powerful as it gets for gaming. ASUS made it a point to put powerful hardware on this, so in addition to having the option to choose between an Intel Core Ultra 7 and an Intel Core Ultra 9, you can also pick between either a discrete NVIDIA RTX 4060 or RTX 4070. It’s rather big compared to the other NUCs, but considering the hardware this is packing and the fact that this will allow you to play games at high resolutions, we’d say that’s fair. We also have the ASUS ExpertCenter PN75, with Intel Core Ultra processors and Intel Arc graphics, and the Fanless Chromebox CM40, a tiny Chrome OS-powered computer mainly geared towards business use.
ASUS has not disclosed pricing or availability info about any of these computers, so you’ll have to keep an eye on ASUS’ website to learn more.
