Four years after its launch, the Blink Mini is still among the most popular indoor security cameras. But it’s time for the Blink Mini to go outside. The new Blink Mini 2 is now available with a $40 price tag, a built-in spotlight, and a weather-resistant design.

The Blink Mini 2 makes several upgrades to accommodate outdoor use. Obviously, it has a weather-resistant design (rated IP65—great for heavy rain or snow), though it also gains a wider 143-degree field of view and an integrated spotlight for full-color night video. Amazon’s person-detection system is also featured in the camera but requires a Blink subscription.

And, for those who are knee-deep in the Blink ecosystem, Blink Mini 2 can stand in as a Blink Video Doorbell chime. This may sound like a feature for indoor use, though it may be useful if you spend a lot of time in your backyard, provided that you install the Blink Mini 2 within an audible distance.

Blink Mini 2

The small and affordable Blink Mini 2 captures high-quality security footage with full-color night video. And, unlike its predecessor, the Mini 2 is rated for outdoor use.

Aside from these outdoor-centric upgrades, the Blink Mini 2 isn’t all that different from its predecessor. It has a bubbly new design with a slightly larger lens, but it still measures just two inches tall, and the 1080p video resolution remains unchanged. It also runs on wired power, though it uses a modern USB-C cable instead of the old-fashioned Micro USB interface.

Naturally, Blink Mini 2 supports Alexa Blink Smarthome Skills and can stream a live video feed to Echo Show devices. It comes with a 90-day trial to Blink’s subscription plan, which unlocks additional cloud storage and other features. Though it’s worth noting that the camera supports local video storage when paired with a Blink Sync Module 2.

You can purchase the Blink Mini 2 today for $40—just $10 more than the original Blink Mini. Unfortunately, the weather-resistant power cable isn’t included. If you don’t have a USB-C cable that’s rated for outdoor use, you need to buy the $50 Blink Mini 2 bundle.
