Mondo’s line of 12″ figures based on the aesthetic of the legendary ‘90s X-Men cartoon is getting a heavy hitter in everyone’s favourite southern belle/loving daughter to two lesbian terrorists, the rambunctious Rogue! But while for the most part this is a loving celebration of that ‘90s take on the character, Mondo snuck in a little something for those that loved Anna Marie’s goth phase.
Revealed this week, Mondo’s X-Men: The Animated Series 1/6 scale Rogue will release with an initial limited edition run that will include exclusive bonus accessories, before getting a wider release later down the line without them. Aside from Rogue herself of course, the base figure comes with a series of extra hands, including two ungloved ones—a plain one and a power-absorbing FX one—a loose glove accessory, a hand featuring her crushing a Friends of Humanity blaster pistol, and an alternate head with a determined, angry scowl. Someone probably just bad mouthed Remy’s cooking, or her mamas, and that’s simply not on.
The limited edition release adds four more bonuses though. The first is a base for Rogue to pose on depicting the smoking, decapitated head of a Sentinel, and the other three are extra heads: one featuring Rogue winking, another inspired by the episode “Deadly Reunions” where she borrows Cyclops’ optic blast powers, and the third as an extra special surprise: a head that’s not from X-Men: The Animated Series at all. Because it depicts the younger teen Rogue from its early-2000s successor series, X-Men: Evolution!
As initially jarring as it is to see the head of Goth Rogue—immaculately recreated by sculptor Alex Brewer with her much tamer bob, and that iconic moody eyeshadow—on the body of her ‘90s counterpart, it’s a really lovely extra to add. With X-Men ‘97 on the horizon we’re getting a lot of love for the classic animated series… but it’d be nice to see Evolution get its own follow up wave of nostalgia afterwards, too.
The limited edition, 1000-copy run of Rogue will retail for $235 and goes for sale on Mondo today, February 20, appropriately alongside the wide release of the company’s X-Men: The Animated Series Gambit figure. A wider release of Rogue will be available for $210 without the Sentinel base or 3 bonus heads at a later date. Click through to see more pictures, sugah!
