An Apple Vision Pro patent sketch superimposed on an original Mac

It’s a week of celebration and anticipation on the AppleInsider Podcast, as Apple’s longest-surviving device — the Mac — enters its fifth decade, and it’s newest device — the Apple Vision Pro — is a week away.

And then as it turns out, Apple has worked hard to fill those tantalizing few days by announcing the biggest ever changes to the App Store since it began. Or at least the biggest ever changes if you’re in the European Union.

As we say in the episode, we’re going to be learning much more about all of this in the coming weeks before it all launches with iOS 17.4. The EU developer beta of that is now out and being examined by everyone from the peculiarly annoyed Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, to those who are also been uncovering many CarPlay secrets.

But before then, we have 40 years of the Mac to cover, plus far, far less than one year of the Apple Vision Pro. Wes Hilliard still hasn’t packed for his trip to Nashville’s Apple Store but he has successfully ordered an Apple Vision Pro.

And he’s got plans for it. Serious plans.

Alongside the past of the Mac and the future of Apple Vision Pro, there’s time to examine how exactly we can expect more iPads soon. And unfortunately how we cannot expect any more of the first-class Apple TV+ show, “Schmigadoon!” as it’s one of many series to be cancelled.
