The mystery of “Who killed Tim Kono?” is coming to ABC. Emmy-nominated Hulu Original comedy series Only Murders in the Building is the latest title to shift from streaming to broadcast, with the first three episodes of season one arriving in early 2024.
According to an ABC press release, the first three episodes of Only Murders—which stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as New York City neighbors who start a true-crime podcast investigating a murder mystery in their upscale apartment building—will reach Tuesday, January 2 starting at 9 p.m. The rest of season one will parcel out January 9 (episodes 4-6), 16 (episodes 7-9), and 23 (episode 10).
Only Murders in the Building recently streamed its third season on Hulu, with a fourth on the way. This strategy of networks airing shows from their affiliated streamers is nothing new—Disney+ Marvel series Ms. Marvel made its broadcast debut on ABC in August, and CBS aired the first two episodes of Paramount+ series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to celebrate Star Trek Day in September.
What’s different is that Only Murders is making the leap in a time when the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike has ended, so it feels appreciate there could be more at stake here than trying to fill vacant time slots on ABC, though there’s ground to make up given all the strike-related production delays. At the very least, anyone who becomes addicted to Only Murders (try not to become addicted, honestly) need only sign up for Hulu to binge more.
