The Omen 16 is a stable, well-built gaming laptop that delivers the right performance for both work and play – as long as you don’t have high expectations and can put up with some fan noise. Poor battery life can be forgiven, but you’ll still be running with the plug in most of the time.

Lastly, pricing is something of a moving target that interested parties will want to follow closely. This unit’s MSRP (model number 16-xf003dx) is $1,850 at Best Buy and $1,810 on HP’s website for the same configuration. Best Buy has dipped the price to $1,450 though. I don’t know what the “real” price of this laptop is, but I can say that whatever you do, you should wait for a sale before handing over your cash.

The HP Omen (2023) offers a solid, no frills option for those looking for a 1080p gaming laptop that doesn’t break the bank. It packs a surprising amount of connectivity and great battery life for everyday tasks, but does get noticeably loud and hot under load and isn’t the most exciting options around.

It’s not perfect, and the battery life will keep it stuck at home most of the time. However, the Omen 16 provides high-end gaming performance and silky smooth 240Hz display at a competitive price.

The Omen 16 (2023) might still fall behind some of its competitors when it comes to mixed-use, but it excels at delivering a high-quality gaming experience. It’s powerful, it doesn’t throttle, and the chassis redesign is a boon for all users. It’s also an excellent everyday value, and it gets particularly attractive when on sale.

The HP Omen 16 is a just-fine gaming laptop with speedy performance, but our test configuration does little to set itself apart from the field, considering the steep price.

The HP Omen 16 doesn’t stand out much, but it’s a good performer for the price if you want a thin laptop. It’s got plenty of ports and repair options, but the touchpad isn’t great and there’s lots of bloatware to uninstall.

Compared to last year’s configuration I reviewed with the AMD processor, the Intel HP OMEN 16 gaming laptop performed much better this year. The tweaks to the cooling system, latest components, and 16.1-inch 240Hz QHD display make for a solid gaming experience. While on the pricey side, you do definitely get what you pay for and the 2023 HP OMEN 16 gaming laptop should be a solid consideration if you’re in the market.

It is only weighed down by lackluster battery life, loud fans on performance mode, and the fact that it sits in the same market and price range as other laptops, which offer some marginally better specs. Nonetheless, the Omen 16 is an excellent choice for gamers, but if content creation is a big part of your agenda as well, I’d opt for a machine with an i9 if it’s in the same price range.

The 2023 Omen 16 looks and performs better than what its low starting price would otherwise suggest.

A great-looking, well-designed luxury gaming notebook that is too expensive and underpowered compared to the competition.

My overall impression of the HP Omen 16 gaming laptop for 2023 are definitely some standout features. The 16.1-inch display, boasting a 240Hz refresh rate and a three-millisecond response time, is a gamer’s dream. The keyboard offers ample space and comfort, and the CPU and GPU performance are excellent. The laptop excels in competitive gaming scenarios, with no significant throttling issues detected. The accessibility for servicing is a plus, along with the inclusion of Thunderbolt 4 support.
