Are you still using an old or outdated email address to sign into Facebook? This is your sign to update your account in Meta’s Accounts Centre.
It’s been nearly 20 years since Facebook first appeared on our screens, meaning it’s likely you’ve switched email accounts at some point in the time since you first joined the app.
It’s important to use an address you still have access to in case your account is breached or you ever need to reset your password. Your email inbox is also the destination for all of your notifications so it’s best to keep your contact information up to date if you don’t want to miss a message or event.
Thankfully, it doesn’t take long to update your primary email to your current address. Meta has even put your Instagram information in the same place so you can update your login information for its sister app while you’re at it.

- A Facebook account
- An email address you want to add

- Go to your Facebook settings
- Click See More In Accounts Centre
- Go to the Personal Details tab
- Click Contact Info
- Select Add New Contact and choose Add Email Address
- Verify your new email address
- Delete your old address if you’d like to
How to change your primary email address on Facebook

1Open Facebook

2Click your profile icon
This will be in the top right corner of the screen.

3Click Settings & Privacy
Or hit the gear icon.

4Choose Settings
This will be the gear icon again.

5Click See More In Accounts Centre
The Accounts Centre is the new destination for updating your account information across Facebook and Instagram.

This will take you to the tab with your login information.

You should see the current email address associated with your account listed here.

You can also add a new mobile number from here.

Then click Next.

11Enter the confirmation code and click Next
You can find the code in your email inbox.

The next few steps will take you through the process of deleting your old email address if that’s something you’d like to do. You can stop at step 11, however.

13Select the email address you want to delete
You can also choose to keep both address attached to your account.

14Hit Delete Email Address
You may be asked to re-enter your password in order to delete the old address.
FAQs
Once you delete your old email address from Facebook, you’ll no longer be able to use it to sign in to your account. You also won’t be able to reset your password or receive notifications using that email address.
