Build a Rocket Boy announced today that it has closed its Series D fundraising round, in which it raised over $110 million. According to the studio, it plans to use that funding to finally launch its community gaming platform, Everywhere, and a set of UGC tools called Arcadia, as well as the first episode of its single-player narrative game Mindseye.
The studio describes Everywhere as a community-driven game and “a place where you can unleash your imagination to build, play and connect,” and where players can also build their own experiences. To that end, Build a Rocket Boy is also planning to launch its second flagship product, its Arcadia UGC tools. The studio claims that these tools are accessible to all skill levels. Mindseye, on the other hand, is a single-player story-driven science fiction title. Build a Rocket Boy dropped the trailer for the title last March, and it’ll be available to play within Everywhere.
Leslie Benzies, a former producer at Rockstar North, founded Build a Rocket Boy in 2018. It officially revealed Everywhere in 2022 with a trailer at Gamescom. Benzies said in a statement, “I started Build a Rocket Boy so that I could continue to share the stories I love with players and give them a place to create and share. We believe in a future where game creation is put in the hands of the players, and we will empower them with the tools to help shape this vision with us.”
RedBird Capital Partners led the round, with participation from Galaxy Interactive, NetEase Games, Endeavor, Alignment Growth, Woodline Partners LP and GTAM Partners. Julia Wittlin, partner at RedBird, said of the investment, “We are pleased to partner with and support exceptional talent like Leslie and the Build A Rocket Boy team as they build the next genre-defining game studio and entertainment platform. RedBird’s investment portfolio in media, entertainment, sports and experiential consumer enables a differentiated perspective on the gaming industry and its convergence with other forms of interactive entertainment.”
