During today’s Xbox Developer Direct, Oxide Games revealed new details about its upcoming strategy title, Ara: History Untold. According to the developers, the new game launches in fall 2024 for PC and Game Pass on PC.
According to the developers, they wished to expand on the strategy genre, offering a living world where players can explore and experiment. Ara also explores new areas of history from Oxide’s other games, as well as new gameplay mechanics. Ara’s “leaders” are not just military figures, say the developers, but a diverse group of historical figures, who each have a benefit based on what they contributed to (real) history.
Oxide touts Ara’s new “Prestige” system, in which players can choose which their advancement to new Ages of gameplay over staying in the current Age, as well as what kinds of technology and knowledge to pursue. Ara also has a crafting system, in which players must use the resources at their disposal to build up their civilization. The game has a new turn system, in which all player turns are resolved simultaneously, which Oxide says helps eliminate any periods of player inaction while waiting on one another.
