With the highest-end graphics cards now costing over $1,000 and taking up a significant chunk of PC builders’ budgets, gamers looking to play games on an affordable machine are left with fewer options, but never none. AMD’s Radeon RX 7000-series GPUs have recieved praise for their relatively affordable price point and their ability to keep up with NVIDIA’s lineup closely. Now, we have a new budget GPU, the Radeon RX 7600 XT—and it might be worth a look if you’re looking for an affordable graphics card that can get the job done.

AMD has unveiled the AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics card, the company’s cheapest RX 7000-series card to date. Even though it’s the cheapest, however, it’s definitely no slouch. It features 16GB of GDDR6 memory, surprisingly more than the otherwise higher-end RX 7700 XT, although it has a lower 128-bit memory bus compared to the 192-bit one in the 7700 XT. The card also supports technologies like AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution and HYPR-RX with AMD Fluid Motion Frames.

Featuring 32 unified AMD RDNA 3 compute units, dedicated ray tracing accelerators, and high-capacity graphics memory, the RX 7600 XT is optimized for max settings gaming at 1080p and higher resolutions. For content creators, it boasts fast content creation performance for tasks such as video editing, graphic design, and 3D modeling. AMD is pitting this against the RTX 4060 in graphs, although seeing how other GPUs in the lineup perform, we’d expect this to be somewhere in between an RTX 4060 and an RTX 4050 as far as performance goes. (Sidenote: AMD’s press release mentions that it’s roughly twice as fast as 2019’s RTX 2060, which is an odd comparison given it’s a five year-old card that’s rather weak compared to current budget cards.)

Other features include ultra-high definition encoding with AV1 support, and improved streaming quality with hardware AV1 encoding. The card also integrates AI accelerators for cutting-edge AI workloads and supports next-gen DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1a-based displays for high resolutions and refresh rates.

The AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT is set to release on January 24, 2024, with a starting price of $329 USD from leading AMD board partners. AMD Advantage-certified systems (which feature both Ryzen CPUs and Radeon dedicated cards for a full “team red” build certified by AMD itself) are expected to follow in the coming months.
