Available today, the new TP-Link Kasa Smart Fan Control & Light Dimmer (KS240) adds a suite of smart controls to your ceiling fan. Adjust fan speed and bulb brightness when away from home, set everything to a routine, or use features like Sleep Mode and Away Mode for an effortless automated experience.

The TP-Link KS240 replaces your existing light switch and must be hardwired. It features independent slider controls for fan speed and bulb brightness, plus a set of handy on/off buttons. Like other TP-Link products, the KS240 is Matter-certified and supports Apple HomeKit, Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings.

TP-Link’s KS240 switch supports four speeds. It also offers full-range dimming for normal dimmable bulbs, not smart bulbs. Everything can be controlled through the Kasa Smart app or your preferred voice assistant. Naturally, this smart switch can integrate with schedules and smart home routines, though it also has an automated Sleep Mode and Away Mode. The Sleep Mode reduces your fan speed after a set interval, while Away Mode randomly turns the lights on and off to deter burglars.

Other manufacturers, including Lutron, TREATLIFE, GE, and Leviton, also sell smart ceiling fan controllers. But the TP-Link KS240’s slider controls are unique and appealing. TP-Link also supports a variety of smart home ecosystems, and it managed to secure ETL certification, which may provide peace of mind for those who are concerned about electrical safety.

Note that the TP-Link KS240 only works in receptacles that use separate load wires for fan speed and lighting. If your ceiling fan stops spinning when you turn off the lights, you cannot use this product without hiring an electrician to upgrade your light receptacle. A neutral wire is also required, though this is true of all ceiling fan installations, so it isn’t a problem.

The TP-Link Kasa KS240 Smart Fan Control & Light Dimmer is now available for $50. Most people can install this switch without hiring an electrician—it’s an easy job, so long as your home is equipped with the correct wiring. If you need a smart dimmer switch without fan speed control, buy the TP-Link HS220 instead.
