Four leading gaming trust and safety companies are banding together to form The Gaming Safety Coalition. This strategic alliance between Modulate, Keywords Studios, ActiveFence and Take This represents the companies’ shared commitment to improving player and moderator well-being.

Together, The Gaming Safety Coalition will leverage partners’ expertise to provide trust and safety best practices, tools and research. The group’s first white paper on the future of gaming content moderation focuses on supporting human moderators with AI tools.

Keywords Studios supports game studios with a variety of services including moderation teams. The company also looks to prioritize moderator well-being through its automated moderation tools.

“The Gaming Safety Coalition is a game-changer that joins together organizations determined to improve safety in gaming communities,” said Sharon Fisher, global head of trust & safety at Keywords Studios. “By uniting forces in both AI and human intelligence (HI), this coalition is all about giving players and superhero moderators the support they deserve to remain safe from online harm. It’s a big move in the much-needed ‘responsible moderation’ evolution in the gaming world.”

ActiveFence gives game developers a suite of trust and safety tools to effectively address in-game toxicity. These include its content moderation platform, threat intelligence and automated AI-driven moderation for both text and visual content.

“The launch of The Gaming Safety Coalition marks a pivotal moment in our ongoing efforts to safeguard the gaming community,” said Noam Schwartz, cofounder and CEO of ActiveFence. “By combining our strengths and expertise, we aim to set new standards for safety and well-being across the gaming industry, ensuring a more inclusive and respectful environment for all.”

Take This is a non-profit that supports mental health across the lifecycle of games for both players and moderators. The organization combines clinical best practices and a love of games to fight mental health stigma.

“We are very pleased to be a part of this effort to advance best practice in game moderation and safety,” said Eve Crevoshay, executive director of Take This. “The coalition is an excellent opportunity to highlight the best of what games can be, and advocate for the safety and well-being of people who make and play games worldwide.”
