11 Bit Studios has revealed new footage of its upcoming sci-fi survival title The Alters at the Xbox Partner Preview event. It has also confirmed the game is launching on PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass sometime later this year, though it does not yet have a release date.
The Alters takes place on a remote planet, where traveler Jan Dolski is taking refuge in a mobile base. Thanks to mysterious resources that allows him to change his past decisions, Jan is able to create alternate versions of himself — the titular “Alters.” These Alters help him run the base, with the overall goal being to escape the planet before survival becomes untenable.
Gameplay is a mixture of work at the base and third-person adventuring gameplay. The Alters have specific skills for each aspect of running the base, including mining, crafting and resource-gathering — though they also have their own needs and goals that Jan Prime must manage.
The game is planned to launch on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, though its inclusion with Game Pass was not confirmed until this show. According to a Windows Central report, 11 Bit Studios made a deal with Xbox to bring some of their games to Game Pass on day one.
