Berlin (dpa) – Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) is looking to significantly expand cooperation with the countries of Southeast Asia. “The Indo-Pacific region is of great importance to Germany and the European Union,” said Scholz after a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Berlin. “This is why we want to intensify political and economic relations.” Following the Malaysian head of government, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos and Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin will be guests in Berlin. The Federal Chancellor previously visited Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia in connection with the G20 summit in November 2022.
