After crashing the golf cart, a fight brewed between Griffith, Ancona and bar employees, police commissioner Chester Williams told Channel 5 Belize. During the fight a conch shell was thrown at Griffith, which struck her head, causing her to have a concussion.

“The next morning, she seemingly was having pain and she went back to the clinic where she succumbed (to her death),” said Williams. “At this time, we are not able to say what the cause of death is — if she died as a result of the conch shell or as a result of the accident.”

Williams said he wasn’t sure who threw the shell, but noted it was “one of the persons involved in the brawl.” He also noted it’s not immediately known whether alcohol was a factor in the incident.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine Griffith’s cause of death.

Several people have reportedly been detained and likely will be charged with disorderly conduct, Channel 5 Belize reported.

Police have reportedly detained several people, who will “at the very least” be charged with disorderly conduct, according to the news outlet.
