The first wildfire evacuation order of the 2024 B.C. wildfire season has been issued for the community of Dokie Siding south of Chetwynd.

According to Emergency Info B.C., the Peace River Regional District issued the order at 7:30 p.m. April 24 related to the Wildmare Creek wildfire that is burning along the John Hart Highway five kilometres south of Chetwynd. The fire was discovered earlier on Wednesday.

“This wildfire is a threat to life and safety. Anyone in the affected area must evacuation immediately,” the Emergency Info B.C. statement read.

An emergency alert has been sent to anyone living directly west of Bisset Creek, south to Pine River and east to Wildmare Creek.

There are 117 active wildfires in B.C., four of which stated on Tuesday.

The current long-range forecasts suggest a high potential for an active spring wildfire season in B.C.
