According to a new study, the facial features of a child can be influenced in the womb by the levels of protein in the mother’s diet.

“One well-known environmental influence on facial morphogenesis in humans is alcohol consumption during pregnancy,” the authors wrote.
Researchers concluded that protein levels had an influence in the gene activity that forms facial features in children.
“As expected, mTORC1 (gene) activity was lowest in the embryos whose mothers were subjected to low-protein diet and most pronounced in the high group, with no differences in body weight,” the authors wrote.
