LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One man went where neither Adam Hadwin nor his caddie Joe Cruz were willing to go on Friday at the PGA Championship. Into a pond to retrieve the Canadian’s golf club.

Video surfaced after Hadwin’s one-over par second round of 72 of a man stripping down to his underwear before diving into a pond at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky.

Hadwin can be seen in the video standing by with a towel — for the golf club — as the Good Scubamaritan wades and then dives in after the golfer’s club. Snakes and other water creatures have been spotted in the ponds around the course, but it didn’t stop Hadwin’s hero from saving the day, or at least a golf club.

Postmedia was on the course with Hadwin at times on Friday, but missed this highlight. How the 36-year-old’s club made its way into the water has not been confirmed, but the Abbotsford, B.C., native’s poor closing stretch was on his mind after his round.

“I didn’t finish as strongly as I would have liked,” Hadwin said. “It really put a sour taste on what could have been a pretty decent round.”

If we had to hazard a guess where the club nearly met its watery end, it would be at the par-5 seventh hole where Hadwin found water with his second shot and made bogey at the hole in as many days.

“Bogeying seven for the second day in a row really gets to you,” he said.

Despite the entertaining and disappointing end to Friday, Hadwin is one of three Canadians to make the cut and will have plenty to play for on the weekend as he looks for a strong finish at a major, and has a chance to gain some very important points towards Olympic qualifying.
