With thousands of visitors expected to enjoy a dish of strawberries and ice cream, organizers of the LaSalle Strawberry Festival are putting out a request for volunteers to help prep the locally grown fruits.

Before the luscious red berries can be consumed, they need to be cleaned, hulled and sliced.

Approximately 300 flats of strawberries from Raymont’s Berries in Cottam are scheduled to arrive in LaSalle for the festival.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the LaSalle Landing event centre, 970 Front Rd., on June 5 at 6 p.m. Advance registration is not required.

The annual LaSalle Strawberry Festival runs June 6 to 9, at the Vollmer Recreation Complex, 2121 Laurier Pkwy.

Highlights include Friday fireworks, Saturday morning parade, plus lots of entertainment and plenty of family friendly activities.

Admission is $5, free for children five and under and adults 65 and over.

Strawberries and ice cream can be purchased during the festival at the strawberries and ice cream tent run by volunteers of Life After Fifty.
