A U.S. woman died last Thursday in a motor-vehicle collision along Highway 4 near the southern Alberta village of Warner.

A vehicle and a semi were headed north on Highway 4 on Thursday evening when the vehicle’s driver pulled in front of the semi to avoid multiple deer in their lane, said RCMP on Monday. Police responded to the collision at about 7:20 p.m.

The semi hit the rear end of the vehicle, causing it to leave the road and into the ditch, said RCMP.

Both drivers were uninjured, but a passenger in the vehicle, a 26-year-old U.S. woman, was transported to a Calgary hospital by STARS air ambulance and died of her injuries.

“RCMP send condolences to the deceased’s family and friends,” said Mounties.

Police continue to investigate the collision.

Warner is roughly 240 kilometres southeast of Calgary.
