HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed American quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa to its practice roster on Monday.

Tagovailoa’s older brother Tua is the starting quarterback with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.

Taulia Tagovailoa, 24, played collegiately at Maryland. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Hawaiian appeared in 41 games over four seasons, completing 955 of 1,424 passes (67.1%) for 11,256 yards and 76 touchdowns, while rushing for 13 TDs as well.

He began his collegiate career at Alabama (2019) before transferring to Maryland.

Tagovailoa is the Big Ten’s all-time leader in passing yards and completion percentage. He is also tied with current Ticats head coach Scott Milanovich for the most passing TDs (26) in a season at Maryland.

ELKS SIGN EX-ARGOS DB

The Edmonton Elks signed veteran Canadian defensive back Josh Hagerty on Monday.

Hagerty joins the Elks following three seasons with the Toronto Argonauts (2021-23). He registered 39 total tackles in 31 regular-season games and was a member of the 2022 Grey Cup-winning squad.

Toronto selected Hagerty in the sixth round, No. 47 overall, in the 2021 CFL Draft out of Saskatchewan. Hagerty helped the Huskies win the 2018 Hardy Cup title.
