The Toronto Blue Jays have traded pitcher Mitch White to the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations.
White, 29, was designated for assignment by the Jays days ago three years after he joined the team from the LA Dodgers. He ends his tenure with the Jays making 24 appearances, throwing 65 and two third innings.
In them, he posted a 7.26 ERA, a 4.10 FIP while allowing 1.69 walks and hits per inning pitched.
The Jays acquired White — as well as Alex De Jesus — at the 2022 Trade Deadline in exchange for prospects Moises Brito and Nick Frasso, but the deal never worked out for the Jays. White struggled to find consistency at the big league levels, instead spending more of him time with the Triple-A Bisons.
Here’s some of what BlueJaysNation’s Ryley Delaney wrote about White days ago:
After pitching well for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons to end the year, which also saw a spike in velocity, the Blue Jays added White back to the 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. In 10 innings pitched this season, mainly in garbage time, White has a 5.40 ERA and a 4.52 FIP, along with a 14.3 K% and a 9.5 BB%.
After averaging around 96-97 mph towards the end of last season, White’s velocity is down to 94.3 mph, a worrisome sign for a guy that really needs a plus pitch. Even still, there’s a good chance that he’ll either be traded or claimed on waivers, thus ending a pretty brutal tenure with Toronto.
Ahead of Saturday’s game against the Padres, the Jays made a few other moves, placing Chad Green on the 15-day IL with a right teres major strain while recalling Nate Pearson from the Triple-A Bisons.
