Over the years, long-time Herald researcher/librarian Norma Marr prepared a feature called The H Files, in which she looked back at a variety of Calgary news events. Here are some of her instalments from 1999, including a look at the April 1947 candy bar protest. It spread to cities from B.C. to the Maritimes, including Ottawa, where children marched on Parliament Hill. One infamous sign from that protest said, “We’ll eat worms before we eat eight-cent chocolate bars.”
