A 15-year-old has been charged after an assault at the Guildford Town Centre’s Spring Carnival on Saturday.

Surrey RCMP said officers were called just after 9:30 p.m. to help firefighters deal with a “possible assault” at the north parking lot of the mall where the spring break event was being held.

Officers at the scene saw a fight break out and intervened. During the incident, first responders treated several people who had been “sprayed with an irritant,” said RCMP.

One female was taken into police custody and another female was taken to hospital for treatment. At the time, police said it wasn’t known whether the suspect and the victim knew each other.

On Tuesday, police said a 15-year-old has been charged with aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm. She remains in custody until her next court appearance.

The victim suffered serious injuries and has since been released from hospital.
