A stolen vehicle located by its owner in Montreal’s Sud-Ouest borough on Sunday morning through a tracking device was discovered abandoned soon after in the same borough — but not before the owner, in another vehicle, reportedly tried to intercept the driver of the stolen vehicle and a police officer narrowly escaped injury.

Montreal police were informed in a 911 call at about 10:45 a.m. about the stolen vehicle being found, said police spokesperson Véronique Dubuc.

At Charlevoix and de Rozel Sts., the man at the wheel of the stolen vehicle allegedly rammed the vehicle pursuing him, slightly injuring a 28-year-old woman before fleeing the scene.

The woman did not require transportation to a hospital, said Dubuc.

A few minutes later, a police officer on duty for Sunday’s Tour de l’Île attempted unsuccessfully to intercept the stolen vehicle at Charlevoix and Châteauguay Sts. The officer was not injured.

The vehicle was briefly lost from view but discovered a few minutes later, abandoned, at Mullins and Shearer Sts., with some damage visible.

Dubuc said police “are actively looking for the suspect.”
