The Stanley Park Easter Train will be closed on Saturday of the busy long weekend following problems with the track Friday night.

This comes after park board staff announced the Easter train would be operating with a wheelchair-accessible car and several years of closure for various mechanical issues.

The Vancouver park board says there was a “minor incident” during routine closedown procedures that caused damage to a section of the track. Staff are closing the train for maintenance by contractors and a safety inspection by Technical Safety B.C.

Saturday ticket holders will be automatically refunded through the ShowPass account used to purchase the ticket. Sunday and Monday ticket holders can also request a refund but park board staff say they are trying to get the train back up and running for the rest of the Easter long weekend.

For the latest updates on whether the train will be ready to reopen Sunday, guests can follow the park board’s social media channels or check back at Vancouversun.com.

No guests were on site and no staff members were injured, according to the park board.

The Stanley Park train was out of commission for several consecutive years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, coyotes, and mechanical issues.

It returned last Christmas for the annual Bright Nights event after corporate and charitable donors stepped in to fund the train’s repairs.
