“It felt good,” Blades captain Trevor Wong said of the win before 5,268 fans at SaskTel Centre.
“Obviously, we had lost three straight at home and we take lots of pride playing at home — we have a great record here — so we were kind of playing for them (fans) and it felt good to get the win.”
After winning 11 straight in February, the Blades went three games without a win on home ice prior to Friday’s victory. Saskatoon is now 24-4-1-0 this season at SaskTel Centre.
The Blades have seven games left to play in the regular season, including a tilt Saturday night at home against the Edmonton Oil Kings.
Tanner Molendyk, Egor Sidorov and Fraser Minten, with an empty-net goal, each scored once for Saskatoon, which led 1-0 and 2-0 by periods.
Andrew Basha, with a power play goal, replied for Medicine Hat, which was good on one of two tries with the man-advantage.
The Blades outshot the Tigers 28-24.
Austin Elliott stopped 23 of 24 shots in the Saskatoon net.
Zach Zahara, who was pulled twice for an extra attacker late in the third period for nearly three minutes overall, had 25 saves for Medicine Hat.
CAPTAIN WONG HITS 250-MARK
Blades captain Trevor Wong reached a milestone with his 250th career WHL point.
Wong was named the game’s first star.
“It’s pretty crazy,” said Wong, who was acquired by the Blades back in 2021 from the Kelowna Rockets in a trade that sent forward Colton Dach to Kelowna. “It felt like yesterday I was a young 16-year-old coming into the league. Now to be here at 20 years old, with a new a new team, I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. It’s pretty cool.”
