The other players, all American, included defensive backs Cole Coleman and Jamar Johnson, defensive lineman Roman Harrison, linebacker Mark McLaurin, running back Jerrion Ealy and receiver Braydon Johnson.

The Roughriders continue training camp at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon this week with daily morning sessions before the annual Green and White Day on Saturday, which will be held at SMF Field.

Gates open at noon before a state of the nation address with general manager Jeremy O’Day, head coach Corey Mace and president-CEO Craig Reynolds at 1 p.m.

On-field activities will begin at 3 p.m. before the day ends with an autograph session along the fence line at 5 p.m.

Following Saturday’s events, the Riders will get set for their first pre-season game on Monday in Regina as they take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2 p.m., Mosaic Stadium).

It will be the first chance for those left in camp to make an impression on the coaching staff during a live game, which can certainly be different than practice.

“Anytime we’re on the field with our game jerseys on, it’s always important,” Mace told reporters in Saskatoon this week. “Obviously during this time of the year, there’s people trying to earn jobs and roster spots and we hold that in high regard obviously as a staff and I know all these players do too.

“So, everybody’s really looking forward to it.”

Riders sign draft pick

One new player joined the team during camp this week as the Roughriders agreed to terms with offensive lineman Daniel Johnson, who was Saskatchewan’s fifth-round selection

in the recent CFL Draft.

The 6-foot-5, 307-pounder — who recently attended an NFL rookie minicamp with the Indianapolis Colts — was the 41st overall selection in the draft after spending the last two years at Purdue University.

Prior to that, the London, Ont. native spent four seasons at Kent State University.
