A working fire was confirmed while crews were still en route, OFS said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Shortly after arrival, firefighters confirmed heavy fire conditions in a third-floor unit.

The two occupants of the unit had managed to flee and were sheltering in a neighbouring apartment.

Ottawa paramedics treated a number of minor injuries and an OC Transpo bus was to shelter residents who had left their apartments.

An OFS investigator has been dispatched to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

The Canadian Red Cross and the Salvation Army will be assisting several residents displaced.
