Regarding the proposed condo development at the Roseland curling club site, Ward 1 Coun. Fred Francis says it’s crazy to put high-density housing in a predominantly single-family neighbourhood.

But his view on Roseland is the exact opposite when it involves any other area of the city. A few years ago, nine out of 10 councillors (including Francis) said during debate on the proposed Lauzon Road condos at Forest Glade Drive that EVERY area of the city must have some high-density development. They approved four, plain-looking condo developments for a small space between single-family homes.

Most recently, Francis and other councillors did the exact same thing in the following three locations: Banwell at Firgrove; Pratt Place and Riverside Dr. East; and Chandler by the Ford Test Track park, each affecting neighbourning single-family homes.

All three projects involve plain-looking block buildings. The proposed Roseland development, on the other hand, looks beautiful, with well-designed and laid-out structures.

I want to move there.

The fact that there are no single-family homes right next door doesn’t matter. The bottom line is that it is in Ward 1, and they don’t have to put up with the same nonsense as every other ward in the city.

If I look around the city, Ward 1 has only a fraction of the high-density, lower-income housing compared to EVERY other Windsor ward.

It’s time to follow up on his comments from a few years ago and ensure that EVERY area of the city — including Ward 1 — accept these new high-density developments.
