Alberta RCMP are on the hunt for a driver connected with a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian collision near Innisfail Thursday morning.

Shortly after 8 a.m., police were called to Highway 590 near Highway 805, about 20 kilometres east of Innisfail, where RCMP and EMS responders found a deceased male in the south ditch of Highway 590, RCMP said in a written statement.

It is believed he was last seen alive around 6:30 a.m., walking westbound on the highway and was later struck by a vehicle going eastbound, police said. The pedestrian was seen dressed in black clothing.

The vehicle involved is thought to be a 2019 or older Chevrolet or GMC 2500 or 3500 HD pick-up truck, with damage to its passenger side, RCMP said.

Investigators are looking to speak with any drivers who were in the area of Thursday morning’s crash between 6:30 and 8:09 a.m. — specifically those who may have dashboard camera footage.

RCMP remained at the crash scene as of early Thursday afternoon.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
