RCMP report incidents involving guns, gold bar, paintball equipment

From  unusual items recovered during raids to a smash-and-grab paintball gun heist, here are a few of the items from Saskatchewan RCMP’s weekly report.

SEARCH NETS GOLD BAR

A gold bar was among items recovered by police during June 10 searches of three  locations, two in Kindersley and one in the nearby community of Netherhill.

Along with the  gold, police allegedly recovered just under 200 grams of cocaine, two loaded guns, ammunition and an imitation gun .

Investigators later determined the guns had were stolenMay 23 in a break-in at a business in Kindersley; a pickup truck was also stolen in that incident and later found burnt.

A 28-year-old man is facing charges of break-and-enter and vehicle theft, along with weapons offences, a 41-year-old suspect has been charged with weapons offences and a 48-year-old man has been charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

ALLEGED THIEF SEEKS GOOD SAMARITAN

Rosetown RCMP are asking the public for information on a man who was seen June 8 asking passersby for help getting a dark-coloured GMC Sierra out of a slough.

The truck left Highway 15 and got stuck in the slough sometime between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.  Police were called, but the man was reportedly gone by the time officers got to the scene.

The truck and some of its contents were later found to have been  reported stolen in Alberta.

SUSPECTS FLEE INTO SLOUGH 

Officers were patrolling Sturgeon Lake First Nation on June 11 when they spotted a truck linked to a wanted man.

Officers tried to pull the truck over but it did not stop. A tire deflation device punctured the vehicle’s front tires, but the truck reportedly kept going on its rims before stopping in a grassy field.

Three people allegedly fled the truck on foot, down a “heavily-brushed” hill towards a slough. One suspect was arrested while knee-deep in the slough, while a second suspect was found hiding in some brush.

RCMP reported a police dog unit called to the scene located the third suspect, with a police dog identified as Rogue apparently finding the man covered in dirt, leaves and branches in a bid to conceal himself.

Two loaded semi-automatic firearms were allegedly recovered after having been thrown from the truck as it fled from police. The truck itself had been reported stolen in a June 6 robbery in Prince Albert.

A 19-year-old man is facing charges including dangerous driving,  flight from a peace officer and resisting arrest. He was also arrested on warrants stemming from an alleged aggravated assault and armed robbery from May 21.

A 26-year-old suspect was charged with possession of property obtained by crime, weapons offences  and breaching probation. They were also arrested on an outstanding warrant for a previous alleged probation breach.

A 30-year-old suspect was charged with weapons offences and breaching probation.

TRUCKS. PAINTBALL GEAR STOLEN IN CRIME SPREE

Melfort RCMP are continuing to seek information in a rash of incidents reported in late April.

The alleged crime spree began April 22 with the theft of a blue 1994 Cheverolet truck from a parking lot in Tisdale. This was followed April 25 with a report of a break-and-enter in Melfort; police believe the stolen blue truck may have been used to ram a garage door, allowing one or more suspects to get into the business and steal between 60 and 70 paintball guns and various gear.

RCMP then got a report April 26 of about $90 worth of fuel stolen from a gas station in Melfort by a man driving a grey truck. Later that day, police were called with a report that a red GMC truck was stolen from a business in the Rural Municipality of Flett’s Springs. Officers arriving at that scene and a blue truck, believed to be the one stolen April 22 was recovered, having been painted grey with what appeared to be a paint roller.
