Supporters of the people of Gaza gathered in the Bowl on the University of Saskatchewan campus on Friday for what organizers described as a “Liberation Zone and Sit-in for Palestine.”
A news release from student organizers said the event was held as a demonstration against “the ongoing genocide of Palestine and in solidarity with other student encampments.”

The event was to include “multiple teach-ins by professors, Palestinian speakers and others; Friday prayer, letter writing, art space, a reading group, a communal meal and more,” the release said.
“This is a response to a call from students in occupied Palestine Universities … which were bombed by Israeli forces. We are joining students around the world in standing up to support the liberation of Palestine.”
StarPhoenix photographer Michelle Berg was there to document the gathering.
