Bill Orban provided the firepower Friday night that propelled Saskatoon Quakers to a seventh-game 6-4 victory over Flin Flon Bombers and sent them into the second round of Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League playoffs. Quakers beat Bombers 4-3 in games in the best-of-seven quarterfinal round. …

Quakers, top-heavy favourites before hostilities began, had to pull out all the stops to subdue the unrelenting, sixth-place Bombers. Saskatoon never led the series until the final game, and even in that one didn’t go ahead to stay until 8:44 of the third period. Trailing 3-2 in games upon their return from Flin Flon, the Quakers prolonged matters with a come-from-behind 9-5 triumph Thursday, then wrapped up the series Friday before 2,411 home customers.

ORBAN THREE

Orban, who over the final two periods came up with an inspiring, two-way effort, shouldered the Quaker scoring load with three goals. Gord Grandberg, just back off the injured list, added a pair while Leigh Bannister counted the other. …

Ernie Ramstead fired a pair of Bomber goals with singles going to Mike MacKenzie and Ken Turlik. …

The series was a tough one and the deciding game closed on the same note. …

The pressure of a sudden-death game took its toll throughout and by the time the third period rolled around both clubs were sticking primarily to two lines. By the end, there was some pretty tired fellows on both sides.
