One person has been arrested following an armed assault that took place overnight Saturday in an apartment building on Crépeau St. in the borough of Ville St-Laurent.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to an operational centre to meet with investigators, said Montreal police spokesperson Jeanne Drouin on Sunday morning. There could be other suspects and more arrests could follow, she said.

A 911 call at about 4 a.m. Sunday led emergency services and police to the Crépeau St. building, near Quintin St. in a residential sector of the borough, where they found three people with injuries. At least one had been stabbed in the upper body. The three victims, males age 19, 26 and 40, were taken to hospital. Police say their lives are not in danger.

A fire alarm set off in the building led to the evacuation of nearly 100 residents. A police search found no fire, but residents were not permitted to re-enter the building for several hours because it was protected for investigators and crime-scene technicians, Drouin said. Two buses were at the scene for residents to keep warm and police interviewed some of them, she said.

By late morning Sunday, a large security perimeter which had been set up for investigators around the building was taken down and the area protected for investigators was limited to areas of the interior, Drouin said.
