Talk about naked ambition. In 1975, the relatively staid world of Canadian politics became downright racy when a group of B.C. nudists formed a new political party — the Nude Garden Party.

The party’s origins were in Vancouver, so the Vancouver Sun decided to lay bare the real facts about the Nude Garden Party. They published this report.

The party was relatively quiet in the months that followed, and 46 years ago this week — on March 1, 1978 — new federal election regulations took effect, ending political party status for the Nude Garden Party and six other groups.

Every so often over the years, a candidate for the Nude Garden Party would still show up in a local election in B.C.   Founder Pat Britten has even ran for mayor and councillor in Vancouver in several past elections.
