Maybe it’s a good harbinger for the real playoffs that the Maple Leafs have a virtual world champion in April.

Ethan Kerr-Polgar, representing the Leafs, won the EA Sports NHL 24 title on Sunday, a $30,000 US first prize in the gaming competition, supported by the league and played in New York City. Kerr-Polgar, a 21-year-old from Newmarket, won a see-saw, best-of-three final series against another Toronto rep, 2022 EA champ Justin Reguly, and dedicated the win to his mother, a three-time cancer survivor.
