Showers and light winds are expected to blow over the Montreal area Thursday, turning to periods of rain overnight.

While five to 10 mm of precipitation is expected for the city, a huge chunk of the province from the New Brunswick border to Hudson Bay and into Ontario to the west is under rainfall warnings. The rain will wash away any leftover snow and could lead to flooding in low-lying areas.

The Biden administration on Thursday awarded $830 million in grants to fund 80 projects aimed at toughening the nation’s aging infrastructure against the harmful impacts of climate change.

The money is expected to improve bridges, roads, ports, rail, transit and other infrastructure across 37 states, Washington, D.C., and the Virgin Islands, particularly those battered by increasingly frequent extreme weather events brought on by the planet’s warming.

President Joe Biden has emphasized the importance of climate resilience and adaptation as he seeks a second term.
