A top 10 prospect in the Blue Jays organization made his Triple-A debut.

However, three of the six teams in action lost on Saturday. Only two teams won, with another team, the Florida Complex League Jays, getting suspended in the bottom of the fifth. We won’t cover that game in this edition, but rather in Tuesday’s edition of the Minor League Report.

Let’s dig in!

Alan Roden hit his first hit for Buffalo

On Saturday, the Buffalo Bisons fell 4-2 to the Worcester Red Sox, bringing their season record to 35-33 for fourth in the International League East.

Orelvis Martinez was the team’s player of the game, as he not only hit one of two doubles for the team, but also had a three-hit performance with two additional singles. Brian Serven had the other double, while Alan Roden hit a single, his first Triple-A hit. Michael Turconi, Rafael Lantigua, and Will Robertson all had singles as well.

Andrew Bash had a strong start, finishing with a line of 5.1 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 8 K to bring his season ERA to 3.69. Mike Mayers gave up an earned run in two thirds of an inning pitched, while Erik Swanson pitched a scoreless inning. Connor Cooke was tagged with a loss, giving up two earned runs in an inning pitched and Brandon Eisert pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout.

New Hampshire lose in extras

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats fell 3-2 in 11 innings, which brings their season record to 28-34, fifth in the Eastern League Northeast division.

The two players with multi-hit games, Alex De Jesus and Kekai Rios, also had the team’s only doubles, with the former’s double being his 10th of the season. Devonte Brown, Ryan McCarty, Josh Kasevich, Andres Sosa, and Garrett Spain all had a single as well.

Trenton Wallace had another strong start, surprise, as he finished with a line of 6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K with a home run given up to bring his season ERA to 2.95. T.J. Brock was the first out of the bullpen, striking out two in an inning of work.

Justin Kelly continued to pitch well since arriving in New Hampshire, striking out a batter in an inning of work. Eric Pardinho hasn’t given up an earned run in 22 innings pitched, striking out four batters in two innings on Saturday. Jimmy Burnette was tagged with the loss, walking two and giving up an unearned run in an inning + of work.

Vancouver end the losing streak

The Vancouver Canadians won’t win the division in the first half, but they got a win on Saturday to snap a losing streak, defeating Spokane 3-1 to move to 27-31.

Je’Von Ward signed with the Jays’ organization on Thursday and followed that up with a home run in his first game on Saturday. Selected in the 12th round of the 2017 draft by the Brewers, Ward, 24, had spent his entire career for the Milwaukee organization up to this point.

Jace Bohrofen also hit a clutch home run, his fifth of the season, in a pinch hitting role in the bottom of the eighth. This home run gave the Canadians a 2-1 lead, all they needed to defeat Spokane.

Other players with a hit were Jarami Baylor, Jommer Hernandez, Jean Hernandez, Nick Goodwin and Robert Brooks, the latter of the two had two singles.

Ryan Jennings made the start for Vancouver, finishing with a line of 5.2 IP, 5 H, 0 ER (1 R), 1 BB, 5 K to bring his season ERA to 1.93. Conor Larkin continued to pitch well, striking out a batter in two innings of work to move his season ERA to 1.38. Chay Yeager finished the game, pitching a clean inning and a third for the win. 

Dunedin fell 4-1

The Dunedin Blue Jays fell 4-1 to the Bradenton Marauders on Saturday, moving their record to 32-30, third in the Florida State League West division.

A third of the D-Jays’ hits came via a double, as Tucker Toman and Victor Arias each hit a double, their eighth and 11th double respectively. It’s worth noting that Arias had a two-home run, four-hit, eight RBI performance on Friday.

Other players with a hit were Jean Joseph, Cristian Feliz, Nicolas Deschamps, and Adrian Meza, while Arias and Robert Robertis each walked once.

Nolan Perry was tagged with the loss, finishing with a line of 4 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K with a home run given up to move his season ERA to 1.33. Irv Carter had a strong performance, striking out four batters in two innings and a third pitched.

Keiner Leon gave up three earned runs in an inning of work, but Eliander Alcalde struck out four in an inning and two thirds.

DSL Jays walk it off

What a game this was, as the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays defeated the DSL Cardinals 10-9 in 10 innings. Their record now sits at 4-4.

Aldo Gaxiola hit his second professional home run and his first of the season, while Randy Soto and Angel Guzmán hit doubles. R. Soto had a multi-hit game and reached with two walks, while Dariel Ramon and Rafael Flores had two singles each. Juarlin Soto also had a hit, but walked three times. The other player with a hit was Esmeiquel Arrieche.

Angel Rivero made the start and struck out three and gave up an earned run in two innings. Victor Espiritu pitched three innings with an earned run and two walks. Geremy Barroso had a rough outing, giving up four earned runs in two thirds of an inning. Danny Martinez walked two, but gave up an unearned run in his inning and a third pitched.

Edgar Gallegos also gave up an earned run in two innings pitched, but struck out three, while Josue Loreto gave up an unearned run in his inning of work.
