A 34-year-old man faces human trafficking allegations after a teenage girl was rescued from the sex trade in Brampton last month.

Durham Regional Police say members of the Human Trafficking Unit, with assistance from the East Division Criminal Investigations Branch, conducted an investigation on Feb. 23 into an online advertisement for sexual services provided by a female believed to be underage.

“The investigation confirmed the female was 16 years old and staying at a residence in Brampton,” Const. Nicholas Gluckstein said in a news release. “The female was located and brought to a place of safety without incident.”

He said investigators returned to the same Brampton residence on Thursday and arrested a suspect.

“The subject of the investigation was observed leaving the residence in his vehicle,” Gluckstein said. “Police initiated a traffic stop and took the male into custody without incident.”

Dane Gifford, of Brampton, is charged with procuring/exercising control of a person under 18 and advertising another person’s sexual services.

The accused was released on an undertaking.
