The death of a 22-year-old man in southeast Edmonton earlier this week has been deemed a homicide, an autopsy confirms.

At approximately 10:55 p.m. Tuesday, city police officers responded to reports of gunshots nearby 48 Street and 21 Avenue, police said in a Wednesday news release. Upon arrival, police located a man suffering from critical injuries.

EMS paramedics transported him to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

On Thursday, an autopsy conducted by the Edmonton medical examiner’s office determined Keithkarn Mander, 22, was shot to death, and confirmed his death as a homicide. Mander’s death is the city’s sixth homicide of 2024.

Later Tuesday night at approximately 11:30 p.m., police responded to a vehicle fire near 199 Street and 21 Avenue. On arrival, officers located an SUV engulfed in flames. Investigators believe the SUV was connected to the death of Mander. No arrests have been made in the case.
