Re “Zameer not guilty of cop’s death at T.O. City Hall parking garage” (Michele Mandel, April 22): While I will not attempt to downplay the absolute tragedy that happened 2 1/2 years ago in that almost deserted underground parking garage, I do believe the right decision was made by the jury. If I may add, this is a complete reversal of my thoughts when the case first came to light. The photographs of Mr. Zameer and Mrs. Northrup in Monday’s Toronto Sun pretty much sum up what must have been a living hell for both parties; I truly feel for them both. While it is speculated that there was collusion between the police involved, it’s possible, but we may never know. I understand there is sometimes a need for police to be in plain clothes, but they could be more closely monitored. And by that I mean the way Det. Const. Jeffrey Northrup was dressed could have easily been mistaken for a panhandling street person. If he had have been dressed in uniform, there’s a good chance this tragic event may not have happened.

(This was an absolute tragedy all around. The loss of Const. Northrup was an accident which nightmares are made of. To Mr. Zameer, there will be nothing that can make up for what he’s endured the last few years, but the jury got it right. But we don’t believe this will be the end of the story, considering the judge’s comments about the police officers who testified)
FOOD THEFT JUST PLAIN DUMB IDEA
Re “Food fight” (Denette Wilford, April 20): Theft from retail outlets, not just grocery stores, is one reason for the higher prices we see today. Now a group is asking people to steal from Loblaw stores. Well, that should lead to lower prices. Apart from the fact that stealing is not legal, who are the brainiacs that decided stealing would lead to lower prices? There is competition in the grocery business. If all stores are charging roughly the same prices, higher food prices are not due to corporate greed. Maybe we should look at marketing boards, carbon taxes, and a low Canadian dollar for the answer to higher prices.

(These idiots calling for this are either too dumb to see the consequences or don’t care. Actions such as this only will hurt the employees)
