Los Angeles tenor saxophonist and bandleader Kamasi Washington is a founding member of the West Coast Get Down jazz collective whose members include bassist Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner, pianist Brandon Coleman and others.
Dubbed the “Wu-Tang Clan of Jazz,” the collective gained international acclaim following its contributions to rapper Kendrick Lamar’s game-changing 2015 hip-hop opus To Pimp a Butterfly. Washington’s solo debut, The Epic, followed that album and cemented his rep as a player to follow.

Performing with artists as diverse as Herbie Hancock and Snoop Dogg to Lauryn Hill and Run the Jewels, Washington can be a hard artist to keep up with, but every recording he appears on benefits from his contributions.

Fearless Movement is the title of Washington’s latest album, which will be released on May 3, 2024 on Young Turks Recordings. With contributions from artists such as the legendary George Clinton and André 3000, the 12 piece record has been described by the artist as his ‘dance album.’
