“We love what it does for the community,” said John during the event’s launch at the the Grove Brewing Company on Friday. “Michelle and I were also touring musicians for 20 years. We played many festivals all over the world.”

The festival has acts that appeal to a variety of musical preferences, John said.

A big thing is it’s a multi-genre festival, all kinds of different music, non-alienating. So we have kids from babies to 90-year-olds, they’re taking in the music,” said John.

“We brought everything we learned over the 20 years of touring. When the artists come here they can’t believe how well they’re received and how well the festivals run.”

Musicians appearing on stage include Juno Award winning Elliott Brood, which has released 12 EPs and albums, and My Son the Hurricane. “They call themselves a 12-piece horn beast and they’re just full of energy, just a wonderful act,” said John.

Bands at the festival span several genres, including country, reggae, hip hop and bluegrass.

The event will feature four performing venues, a main stage and three secondary stages, so fans can take in a band on the main stage for a big performance then see them close up on a secondary stage the next day.

“It’s a chance to really hear lyrics and to engage with the performers,” said Michelle. “Stages during the day are lower to the ground.

“So you’re actually sitting really close to the performers and you get to experience, you can laugh with them, you can ask them questions. So you really get to engage.

“It’s pretty interesting for audience members, just to see it at that level.”

The event offers music fans a chance to soak in the music for the weekend.

“There’s lots to do,” said Michelle. “Along with the music, we fence the entire park and it’s licensed so you can grab glass of wine and wander around and sit and watch the music.

“Bring a chair, and a blanket for evening. We have food vendors, we have a vendor village, so there’s lots to see and do.”
