The Ontario Fire Marshal, Windsor police and Windsor Fire and Rescue Services continue to investigate the discovery of a body at the scene of a Monday morning house fire.

Windsor police said in a statement posted to social media Monday that a body was discovered inside the residence in the 1900 block of Bernard Road after firefighters extinguished the early-morning blaze.

Police arson and major crimes units are carrying out the investigation into both the cause of the blaze and events leading up to the discovery of the body.

Officers and firefighters were dispatched to the working fire just before 4:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Members of the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services, Windsor police arson and major crimes units were observed at the scene on Monday afternoon.

Authorities said Monday the investigation remains ongoing and it remains too early to provide further details.

Police ask anyone in the area with surveillance cameras or dashcams to check their footage for possible evidence.
