It was a day for celebration and inclusion.
Events were held around the world Friday to mark International Women’s Day, a global day to recognize women’s social, economic, cultural and political achievements.

Women’s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc. (WEST) celebrated the day with its annual gala at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts.
The theme of the evening’s celebration was Inspire the Future Generation #CountHerIn.

WEST, a non-profit community organization, has a mandate to improve the employability of visible minority women in the community through technical and life skills training programs.
Celebrated each year on March 8, International Women’s Day has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in March 1911.
The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality, along with this year’s campaign theme of Inspire Inclusion.
The keynote speaker Friday evening was Patricia France, president of St. Clair College.
Following her speech, WEST presented 13 achievement awards to individuals and organizations.
