Mounties in Fort Chipewyan have charged four men with a series of firearms offences after a traffic stop on Friday.

At approximately 12 p.m. on April 5, police received a complaint of a vehicle driving in the community with a firearm, said a Monday news release.

A short time later, RCMP located a vehicle and arrested four occupants. A search resulted in a seizure of a loaded .22 calibre handgun as well as multiple spent .22 calibre casings.

Police have charged Bruce George Lepine, 46, and Dominic Mills-Bruno, 23, of Fort Chipewyan, Kyle Flett, 28 of Fort McMurray and Saddle Lake resident Jimmy William Houle, 26 with eight weapons and firearms-related offences that include possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized, possession of firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle and uttering threats against a person.

Flett and Houle were scheduled to appear in court on Monday, while Lepine and Mills-Bruno were released on conditions and are to appear next on May 2 in Fort Chipewyan.
